Daniel Chapter 2
Walking with God. A lesson from Daniel
Walking with God is essential—it must be a consistent relationship, not one based on feelings or convenience. Daniel’s life offers a profound lesson in this regard.
When Arioch, the captain of King Nebuchadnezzar’s guard, arrived at Daniel’s doorstep with the King’s decree requiring a wise man to reveal and interpret his dream, Daniel did not hesitate. His consistent walk with God had prepared him for such a moment. Daniel didn’t need to panic or make desperate pleas; instead, he exercised authority and wisdom, engaging his friends—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—in prayer and unity.
This teaches me a vital truth: as a Christian, I must cultivate a consistent relationship with Christ, not one that I only activate in times of need. Like Daniel, I have the advantage of direct access to God. The question is: Am I using this access consistently, or only momentarily?
Reflections:
Daniel 2: 48 Then the king placed Daniel in a high position and lavished many gifts on him. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of all its wise men. 49 Moreover, at Daniel’s request the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained at the royal court.
Many people often forget those who stood by them during their moments of trials or when they were seeking the face of God for answers. Some will take the glory for themselves alone.
Daniel did not forget his three friends who prayed alongside him for God’s mercy so that God can show Daniel the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar.
This made me go back to read chapter two fully again to be reminded of how Daniel and his three friends got here. If we look at verse 17 -18, Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to build and maintain a consistent relationship with You. I don’t want my faith to be lukewarm or dependent on circumstances. Grant me the grace to walk with You faithfully, in every season and at all times.
I also pray, Lord, that just as Daniel knew he was not alone when calling on You, remind me always that I am never alone. Teach me to seek and nurture godly friendships that encourage faith and unity. Help me to cultivate relationships that reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
